New consultancy partners with Pearl Meyer and X|R Consultoria to offer global executive compensation expertise to CGP clients

Compensation Governance Partners (CGP) is Canada’s comprehensive executive compensation and governance consulting firm serving boards and management, with a focus on mid-market organizations. CGP was created by a team of experienced professionals who recognized a need to provide innovative and objective advice underpinned by in-depth analysis and research. Headquartered in Toronto, CGP is employee-owned and managed by practitioners with backgrounds in human resources, law, finance, mathematics, economics, and management.

Founding Managing Director, Christopher Chen, spent over a decade as one of Canada’s most forward-looking practitioners of executive compensation. Most recently, he served as the National Practice Leader, Executive Pay & Governance, at one of the world’s largest human resources consultancies. He was also a member of the firm’s Canadian Management Committee.

“The need for an independent consultancy focused on providing clear, objective, unfettered advice to the expanding mid-market in Canada has never been stronger,” commented Chen. “Our Canadian champions on the world stage were all mid-market once and we want to continue helping this generation of organizations succeed.”

CGP’s global partnerships will give clients the ability to seamlessly access compensation advice in other jurisdictions, namely with Pearl Meyer in the United States, Europe and Asia, and with X|R Consultoria in South America. “We have great respect for the capabilities of our partners based on their track record and technical expertise,” continued Chen. “Our partners will add insight and value as our clients expand internationally.”

“We look forward to collaborating with Chris and his team to bring our unique perspective on executive compensation trends and practices to CGP’s clients,” said David Swinford, President and CEO of Pearl Meyer.

In concert with X|R Consultoria, CGP has developed a compensation database where clients can compare their jobs to similarly sized jobs at publicly traded companies. “Job sizing is an overlooked perspective that can help get compensation right,” observed Chen. “Traditional compensation analysis is by matching job titles, such as CFO to CFO. However, one CFO may manage IT and HR while another CFO may oversee M&A and Legal.  Job size lets you compare compensation for the same size roles, which provides a more accurate, apples to apples comparison.”
